Statehouse Streamers
Written by Mark Favorite
The demands of Mark Favorite's occupation led
him to try to balance his life as a health care
professional against other creative outlets. He
began tying classic Atlantic salmon flies in 1986
and quickly matured so that in 1995 he captured
the coveted gold medal at the World Championship
competition in Atlantic salmon fly tying. Favorite's
attention then turned to teaching and demonstrating
fly tying, throughout Scandinavia and New England.
In 1999 he represented his home state of New
Hampshire in fly tying at The Smithsonian Institute,
Washington, D.C.. Presently, he teaches the art
of Atlantic salmon fly tying through grants provided
by The New Hampshire State Council on the Arts
which is funded in part by The National Endowment
for the Arts. This is Favorite's story of how he
originated his set of five Statehouse streamers.
